We recently had the opportunity to do a Q&A with Lauren Van Berkel, a veteran Stride employee who has moved through the ranks and has now been promoted to Credit Analyst. Lauren brings an exciting perspective to the Stride Capital team.

Congratulations on your recent promotion to Credit Analyst! What are you looking forward to about your new role?
Thank you! I am excited that this role allows me to continue to achieve my professional goals, and contribute to the overall value that I add to Stride. I’m certainly looking forward to having the opportunity to be trusted in more/different ways when it comes to making good decisions for the company.
You’ve had the unique opportunity to work in various areas of Stride Capital’s business including Customer Service, Documentation, and Marketing. How do you think this experience will shape the way you approach your new position?
I’ve been with Stride since their first year in operation, which has allowed me to wear different hats over the last (almost) 6 years. I believe my time in these roles/departments has led to a fairly seamless transition into credit since I’m very familiar with the business and systems.
My previous experience in these areas will help ensure I continue to contribute to Stride’s overall success in providing unique financing options for small business owners. I believe the knowledge from these other aspects of the business will allow me to make well-rounded credit decisions that benefit both the business and our clients.
What made you want to work in the credit area of the business?
Credit has been something I’ve been interested in for quite some time. My interest has grown over the years as I’ve come to realize it would give me a deeper appreciation and understanding of how deals are structured.
I’m passionate about helping mitigate risk, providing the best possible support to our sales team and, ultimately, the best customer service to our valued clients.
What do you like the most about working at Stride Capital?
Definitely the culture! Stride places a lot of importance on hiring staff that are incredibly kind, hardworking and above all, fun!
We have a great group of strong leaders who are always willing to help employees learn, grow and evolve based on individual needs and career aspirations. We have a very flexible work environment that really supports work/life balance. I am truly lucky to come to work every day, and love what I do and the people that make up this organization!
What is your life outside of work like?
Outside of work my life revolves around my people, the outdoors and the gym. I spend a lot of time focusing on connections with family and friends, spending time outside going on bike rides and walks in the park, and making other peoples’ fitness goals come true, as I am also a fitness instructor.
