We recently had the opportunity to chat with Sarath Wattegama, Stride Capital’s new Account Manager, serving Interior BC, about his new role with Stride Capital, what he’s looking forward to in it, and his previous work experience that led him to Stride.
Tell us about your previous work experience and how it led you to Stride.
I have spent over 20 years working in and around the equipment sales and commercial financial business in the Middle East, Canada, and China. I have worked with companies in various industries but have focused on construction equipment, material handling equipment, and material handling equipment OEM manufacturing. My most recent experience was working with an equipment financing broker, and I needed to join a direct-lending company who looked at making deals that make sense. Stride Capital is that organization for me.
What are you looking forward to about your new role as Account Manager for Stride?
I am always ready for a challenge and an opportunity to compete. In my role as Account Manager for Stride, I will be responsible for the Interior of BC. I look forward to introducing Stride to equipment vendors and small- to mid-sized end-user companies who require new or used equipment financing for either a private sale, auction pre-approvals, or sale-leasebacks. Also, I want to use my material handling equipment knowledge to bring MHE vendors on board to Stride Capital.
What opportunities do you see as part of Stride and within this new role?
Agriculture and forestry are the key industries in the interior of BC. I see most of our competitors are based in either Vancouver or Calgary. As a Stride Capital Account Manager living in the Interior of BC, my plan is to meet in person with all the potential opportunities and introduce Stride’s product offering. I’m sure with the help of Stride’s excellent customer service and hardworking team, I can make it happen.
Material handling equipment is one of the key equipment categories that I will focus on. I know it is a new industry to Stride, but with my MHE experience, I will bring in additional vendors and end users in this industry to Stride.
What is your life like outside of work?
I love nature and wildlife, travelling and hiking. During the summer, I stay outside with my family as much as possible. I also volunteer with my son in the community of Evergreen and watch cricket, basketball, and hockey.
