We sat down with Nick Waldner, who recently joined the Stride Capital team, to ask him about his previous experience and what he’s looking forward to in his new role as Sales Coordinator. Keep reading to get to know Nick better and learn more about his education, experience, and interests.
Tell us about your previous work experience and finance education and how it led you to Stride.
After graduating from the University of Lethbridge in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in finance, I worked in the insurance industry as a Client Care Advisor, and in the construction industry as an Assistant Site Supervisor. The things I’ve experienced through my previous positions have allowed me to hone my communication, time management, and collaboration skills, and have given me an understanding of the industries I will be working to support at Stride. My education has also given me a solid foundation to understand the important functions of the role, and the company as a whole. This experience and education have provided me with a pretty unique blend of skills and knowledge that I knew would be a perfect fit for Stride. I also knew Stride would be a perfect fit for me when I learned this will be a great place for me to continue to learn and grow even further with a great team alongside me.
What are you looking forward to about your new role as Sales Coordinator for Stride?
I’m looking forward to helping the team as we all enable each other to perform the best that we can. I’m also looking forward to all of the potential opportunities to learn and grow, bettering both mine and Stride’s future.
What opportunities do you see as part of Stride and within this new role?
I’m someone who loves to learn and is really motivated by new challenges, so the role allows me to satisfy both of these aspects of myself. It also gives me a chance to show how much of a positive impact I can have at a company which is a part of the industry I see my future career in.
Can you tell us a bit about your experience working in a team environment, managing client relationships, and doing financial analysis?
I have pretty extensive experience in team environments as I played sports in school, and my university courses heavily prioritized the importance of working well in groups. I was also lucky enough to work in positions where I was able to help contribute to a positive team environment. My prior positions also required me to communicate with clients in a variety of scenarios, which taught me the importance of maintaining strong client relationships. Fortunately, my education in financial analysis was quite robust and I have applied the things I’ve learned in quite a few different contexts. I’ve performed valuations of companies of varying market caps, credit analyses, etc., which I believe has provided me with skills that will benefit me here at Stride.
What is your life like outside of work?
To keep myself occupied, I like to read and learn new skills. I’ve taught myself Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, and am now learning to code in Python. I’m also a pretty big movie buff, so I try to fit watching one into my schedule when I can. I try to get out and do new things around Calgary whenever I can because I love how much the city has to offer and have loved calling it my home for nearly my entire life.
